General information Help - General information (DGG-Info)
To use the full functionality of the application (e.g. autocomplete), you must have JavaScript enabled in your internet browser.
Please note that the texts of the ICAO TI and UN Rec. regulations are only available in English.
Search Help - Search (DGG-Info)
You can use the search function to find substance information in the Dangerous Goods Database.
The search consists of a simple search and an advanced search.
The simple search contains only one input field with the most important search criteria,
while the advanced search offers additional search criteria.
A search may return a large number of results. For performance reasons, the application limits the
number of results. In this case, you will receive a message and will need to refine your search criteria
to see the desired results.
Simple search Help - Simple search (DGG-Info)
The simple search contains only a single input field, into which you can either enter:
- the name of a chemical substance,
- an UN number,
- a CAS number or
- a chemical formula.
The application displays suggestions as you type.
Use the "Partial Word" checkbox to determine whether your input is sufficient as a partial
word for a match or whether it must be included as a whole word.
Advanced search Help - Advanced search (DGG-Info)
The advanced search offers many search criteria that you can use to find the substances you're looking for. If you enter search terms in multiple input fields, they will be combined with a logical "and".
Shortinfo Help - Shortinfo (DGG-Info)
The shortinfo contains a compact summary of the most important information from one regulation that must be taken into account for the transport of a dangerous good. These include substance information such as the proper shipping name, classification, special provisions, labelling, etc.
Detailinfo Help - Detailinfo (DGG-Info)
In contrast to the shortinfo, the detailinfo contains all information about a substance from the database. The information is organized by topics. At the bottom there is a section with links to external databases.
Glossary Help - Glossary (DGG-Info)
The glossary contains an alphabetically list of terms and their respective meanings.
BAM number Help - BAM number (DGG-Info)
CAS number Help - CAS number (DGG-Info)
The CAS Number (CAS = Chemical Abstract Service) is used for identification of chemical substances. It is composed of numbers and dashes, and is structured as follows:
- Sequence of digits with up to 7 digits
- Dash
- Sequence of exactly 2 digits
- Dash
- Check digit
Examples:
- 67-64-1 → Acetone
- 7440-17-7 → Rubidium
- 7647-01-0 → Hydrochloric acid

Classification code Help - Classification code (DGG-Info)
The classification code characterizes the dangerous properties of a substance or article, e.g. toxic (T) or flammable (F).
These properties can also occur in combination, e.g. toxic and corrosive (TC).
For substances or articles in class 1, the classification code is made up of the subclass and compatibility group, e.g. 1.1F.
For substances or articles in class 2, the code consists of a number and one or more letters representing the group of dangerous properties.

Packing group Help - Packing group (DGG-Info)
The packing group divides the dangerous goods of certain classes according to their degree of danger. There are three different packing groups:
| Packing group | Description |
|---|---|
| I | Substances with high risk |
| II | Substances with medium risk |
| III | Substances with low risk |
Orange plate Help - Orange plate (DGG-Info)
Transport units carrying dangerous goods shall display two rectangular orange-coloured plates conforming to 5.3.2.2.1, set in a vertical plane. They shall be affixed one at the front and the other at the rear of the transport unit, both perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the transport unit. They shall be clearly visible.
The orange plate shows the hazard identification number at the top and the UN number at the bottom.
UN number Help - UN number (DGG-Info)
The UN number is a four-digit number to identify substances or objects in accordance to the
UN Recommendations on the transport of dangerous goods. An UN number is assigned to each hazardous
material in the dangerous goods lists of the regulations of all modes of transport.
Examples of UN numbers:
- 0004 → AMMONIUM PICRATE
- 0312 → CARTRIDGES, SIGNAL
- 2465 → DICHLOROISOCYANURIC ACID SALTS
- 3077 → ENVIRONMENTALLY HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCE, SOLID, N.O.S.
The terms ID number or substance number include additional numbers that are not regular UN numbers. They have been introduced for identification of certain substances or objects by transport regulations. ICAO includes ID numbers from 8000 and greater. ADN includes substance numbers from 9000 and greater.
